Partsmart Q & A

Who can buy parts?

MOC Ltd has a strict policy of only selling parts to club members in order to qualify for certain tax concessions given to non profit making clubs and associations by the UK tax authorities.

Do you publish a parts list?

Yes. The parts list is published in Kabinews and can also be found under Partsmart on the MOC’s website.

How do I contact Partsmart?

Partsmart contact details are published in Kabinews.

Do you post worldwide?

Yes.

How can I identify the parts that I need?

The Partsmart parts list uses the factory part numbers from the FMR parts list for all parts except for the engine parts which use the illustration numbers from the Sachs parts list.
There are some exceptions which prove the rule, however, as some of the FMR parts list numbers changed in revised editions of the parts list. Furthermore Partsmart also sell items such as trim sets, for example, as opposed to individually numbered pieces of trim as in the FMR parts book.

The Sachs parts list is not immune to part numbers having changed over the years either, however, use the parts numbers together with a description and the knowledgeable Partsmart team will be able to identify the part you require.

Do you publish parts booklets?

Yes, the FMR parts list and Sachs parts list are both reproduced in original factory format booklets to purchase from Partsmart and are also available to view on the MOC’s website.

Pricing of parts

Prices are quoted in pounds sterling and exclude UK value added tax (VAT) (+20%) and post/shipping costs.

For members resident in the UK, VAT will be added at the rate of 20% to the quoted parts prices and be shown on the invoice prior to purchase..
For members resident overseas, VAT will not be added to the quoted parts prices on the invoice prior to purchase. Overseas buyers will be liable to pay their country’s import taxes and any duties directly when contacted by their countries customs or postal system.

How do I order parts?

Partsmart contact details are published in Kabinews and most people prefer to use email to place their orders. When placing an order use the part numbers, descriptions, quantities required, payment method and if you would like to collect). Due to insurance limits and weight/size limits Partsmart reserve the right to choose the postal service/shipper for logistical reasons.

What happens after I have placed my order?

An email is sent advising that the order has been received and will be processed soon.

With the order processed it is picked and packed so the delivery cost can be worked out and added to the invoice. The completed invoice will include VAT and delivery (where applicable) on top of the parts total. Payment options will be requested i.e. bank details or Paypal request. Any parts not in stock will be shown on the invoice.

Once payment has been received the order will be despatched and an email sent confirming this together with any tracking numbers if applicable.

What about payment?

A Paypal payment request will be issued (you do not need to have a Paypal account to use a credit/debit card for payment through Paypal). Alternatively payment can be made by a cheque drawn on a UK bank account.

How do I pay if I live overseas?

For non UK payments you will be automatically offered payment in your local currency if you pay via Paypal (Paypal costs for this service are paid for by the MOC).

For bank transfer payments, payees will have to instruct their bank on the correct amount to pay.

Post, shipping or collection of your order

On receipt of the payment in full the order will be despatched or prepared for collection. Orders, in particular for bulky items, can be collected from Partsmart’s premises in Cheddar or at the annual rally, both by prior arrangement.

What do I do if the part I need is not listed?

Contact Partsmart to see what possibilities may exist.

What do I do if I receive a faulty part?

In the first instance contact Partsmart and give the date of purchase as shown on the Partsmart invoice. If the fault arose with the item within six months of the purchaser receiving it, it will be presumed that the fault was present at the time of sale and a full refund or replacement on return of the faulty part (if requested) will be made. This presumption can be challenged if it can be shown that the purchaser caused the fault, through accident or misuse. To help with tracing defects please do not dismantle or modify the part otherwise it becomes impossible to investigate the defect.

How do you manage to supply so many parts for a car that came
out in the 1950s?

This is achieved through the hard work of volunteers and close cooperation with the MCD (Messerschmitt Club Deutschland), however, there will be some occasions when Partsmart is temporarily unable to supply some parts. Increasingly the MOC has to commission the manufacture of parts or order parts that other suppliers, such as the MCD have commissioned. To keep the cost per unit as low as possible the reordering of parts is sometimes delayed until both the MOC and MCD are in a position to order in economic quantities. Furthermore time to make or recommission tooling can also lead to delays in obtaining parts.

How is the money from subscriptions and Partsmart sales
distributed?

The subscription income mostly covers the cost of production and distribution of Kabinews. The spare parts income covers the cost of insurance, storage, telephone, office equipment, transport and sales commission to the Partsmart Distribution Manager. There is a small profit element that is used to invest in new spare parts projects, therefore all profits are reinvested and do not go to private individuals.
